Galdi and Girls Code It Better: Support for Liceo Flaminio's Female Students

Renewing its support of the Girls Code It Better project for another year, Galdi has launched an innovative challenge for schoolgirls in the local area

After the successful collaboration with the Girls Code It Better project during the 2022/2023 school year, Galdi has decided to renew its participation for another year.

Once again, girls attending the Liceo Flaminio in Vittorio Veneto are invited to take part in the development lab.

In this article we share the results of the 2022/2023 edition.

Girls Code It Better project: inspiring and strategic alike

Targeting secondary school girls, the Girls Code It Better project aims to encourage young women to take up STEM study and work careers through innovative and digital workshops.

This is definitely a pressing topic at Galdi, as we are constantly looking for fresh talent to fill technical roles, where women are still under-represented.

After hosting the project presentation event at the Galdi Village during the DIGITALmeet 2021 festival, Galdi decided to actively contribute to the initiative and last year started a Club in cooperation with a local school.

A girls only Club and a challenge

Among the upper secondary schools in the Treviso province that applied for the project, Galdi decided to support Liceo Flaminio, with the goal of encouraging girls to pursue a university degree in science and technology.

Liceo Flaminio is a High School located in Vittorio Veneto (Treviso province). In 2022/2023, 20 girls – specialising in different subjects, including Classic, Human Studies, Scientific and Applied Sciences - participated in the project.

Taking part in a development lab, the girls were assigned the following task: explain the life cycle of a Gable Top carton with a young audience in mind, while also describing the daily work at Galdi.

The result is an engaging and interactive exhibition!

Using creativity and fresh thinking, the Club's girls really transformed their ideas into innovation!

They created an immersive exhibition divided into six thematic areas, turning the hall of the Galdi Village into a virtual space.

Each section represents a stage in the life cycle of Gable Top cartons, from the FSC forests where the cardboard used to make the containers is sourced to their recycling after use!

Videos and interactive games were also added to the exhibition contents in order to increase awareness and curiosity, especially among the youngest visitors.

What will be the challenge for the Club in the 2023/2024 school year?

We'll find out soon.
