Tirlán (Ireland) has partnered with Galdi to install a complete packaging line

We worked with Tirlán on a major development project for a new packaging line, which fills 1.75-litre Gable Top milk cartons, sold under the brand name Avonmore. For this engineering and operational challenge, Galdi provided considerable resources and innovative solutions.

Tirlán (formerly Glanbia Ireland) is a fully farmer-owned cooperative, with 11 hi-tech processing facilities, 52 branches, and over 2,100 employees.

The company processes around 3 billion litres of milk annually, of which 250 millions are for drinking milk. Of this, 40% is currently packaged in Gable Top cartons and sold under the popular brand name Avonmore.

To enhance their premium milk offer, in 2014 the company introduced 1-litre Gable Top cartons for the first time, which have since become very popular.

In 2022, Tirlán decided to expand its range of Gable Top products, introducing 1.75-litre (91x91) cartons. For the development and installation of a complete packaging line, the company partnered with Galdi.

Milk in 1.75-liter Gable Top becomes a popular format in the UK market: it meets consumer needs as volume and the carton container is appreciated for its convenience and sustainability.

THE EXPERIENCE WITH GALDI

For the project, Galdi provided a range of resources:

  • Project development on a complex plant, combining the packaging line with overhead transportation systems and other solutions to optimise space
  • Dedicated Project Manager, responsible for overseeing planning, coordination on site, particularly during handling and installation
  • Local field technician to assist and support the customer


Since Galdi packaging machines can handle any type of packaging available on the market,Tirlán was able to select a paper supplier a few weeks before start-up.

The production startup was rapid. Only 5 weeks after installation, the line reached its optimal performance (85% OEE, 97% MME).

As the supplier of the entire packaging line, we acted as the single point of contact, ensuring optimal project management and problem solving, assisting Tirlán's managers with valuable resources throughout the project.
