The support provided by Galdi System Integrators

From layout to technical coordination: find out how Galdi System Integrators support customers in the development of integrated and efficient packaging systems

Together with Project Managers, System Integrators are a key figure in development teams dedicated to the installation of Galdi packaging systems.

The main tasks of a System Integrator include:

  • Packaging line layout development and integration
  • Technical coordination of all professionals and suppliers involved in the project
  • Machinery and production environment risk analysis
  • Sharing of all necessary information and documents for proper and smooth installation

As the name suggests, a Galdi System Integrator incorporates customer requirements into the layout, serving as the contact point for all things technical, for customers, specialists and suppliers.

Thanks to continuous training and Galdi's know-how, System Integrators come up with the most efficient and competitive packaging system solutions in terms of line efficiency, ergonomics, safety, as well as optimization of flows and processes.

Galdi System Integrators: 3 case studies

Developing a project from scratch

Based on customer requirements and site characteristics, a System Integrator develops different layout options, sharing decisions and solutions, and oversees the development stage.

Recently, we worked with MM Spa, a company owned by the Municipality of Milan. The customer had no previous packaging experience. Galdi provided all-round support to design and build a Gable Top packaging line for water.

Since this was a new site and no water distribution system was in place, the System Integrator assisted the customer with a range of services:

  • Support for plant development: from assessing the customer's proposed water system layout to evaluating water requirements for packaging and cleaning operations
  • Layout design for the packaging line, storage areas and other plant components
  • Selection of most suitable technologies and machinery
  • Oversight of every aspect of the site, from design to utilities
  • On-site logistic support

Establishing production management procedures, with a focus on improved ergonomics for operators, directions with regard to product storage areas, pallet handling and storage, etc.

Integrated layout for existing production facility

The expertise of a System Integrator can make a difference when installing packaging systems in existing facilities that present a significant degree of complexity, e.g.:

  • multiple machinery and plants
  • space constraints
  • facilities with complex design and systems

When this is the case, the goal of layout design is to optimize the available spaces and implement solutions that ensure ergonomics, safety, and integration into existing environments.

Our System Integrator has recently helped a customer whose manufacturing plant had limited space available and a floor plan layout that required positioning the packaging machine and the end-of-line equipment on opposite sides of the production area.

One of the solutions was to combine the lift and overhead conveyor system with an alpine conveyor system for the descent of packages to reduce footprint and allow enough space for operators working in the area.

At a different site, with limited space for the palletizing area, it was decided to add a Cartesian robot, suitable for the available space and desired production speed.

The palletizing system was designed and developed in cooperation with the end-of-line specialists at Artema Pack and the supplier, with an added difficulty: due to travel restrictions and distancing rules, the project was carried out in fully remote mode.

Support to guarantee the safety of the packaging line

A System Integrator proves critical in ensuring the safety of a packaging line.

He works closely with the customer's safety managers and consultants.

Together with the Project Manager, he understands their needs and offers support to check safety requirements and get the technical documentation related to machinery and technical staff.

In addition to designing a packaging line that complies with safety regulations, Galdi System Integrators are key to make sure that:

  • Machinery from third-party suppliers undergo a risk analysis
  • Layouts are verified by safety experts
  • Obvious and residual risks of the packaging line are thoroughly assessed.
