Galdi’s Packaging Development: from concept to finished product

From product analysis to the shelf: an interview with Fabio Gala on Galdi’s approach

An interview with Fabio Gala, Business Development Manager of the Galdi Packaging Department to explore the importance of packaging development and its tangible impact on client projects.

Role and approach of Packaging Development

Fabio, what is your role, and what does Galdi’s packaging development involve?

My role is to build a bridge between Galdi, manufacturers and clients, with a strong focus on packaging. The Packaging Development department aims to turn a product idea into a concrete, safe and market-ready solution.

We follow an integrated approach that combines product, packaging and production process. This includes analysing the product, designing the most suitable packaging, testing compatibility and developing an efficient filling process. The result is a fully optimised solution in terms of quality, sustainability and cost.

Galdi’s Packaging Development transforms ideas into industrial-ready solutions by integrating product, packaging and production processes.

Client support and technical consultancy

What does it actually mean to assist clients in developing packaging?

It means working alongside clients at every stage, providing highly specialised technical consultancy. We do not simply suggest packaging, but develop tailored solutions that consider product characteristics, materials, safety requirements and market goals.

This is where our value lies: integrating all elements into an effective and competitive solution.

Galdi delivers tailored packaging solutions that balance performance, safety and market objectives.

Development process and collaboration

In which stages do you get involved?

Packaging development spans the entire lifecycle, from initial concept to shelf-ready product.

The process is structured yet flexible: product analysis, concept definition, packaging and process development, testing and validation, and finally industrialisation. Post-launch, we continue supporting clients with monitoring and optimisation.

How important is collaboration with clients?

It is essential. We work closely with R&D, production and quality teams to ensure consistency across all aspects.

This integration helps prevent technical issues, accelerate development and deliver solutions ready for manufacturing.

A structured and collaborative process enables faster time-to-market with production-ready solutions.

Innovative and responsible packaging

How does packaging development incorporate sustainability?

Responsibility is an integral part of the entire process — not just materials, but the whole system

We reduce environmental impact through lighter packaging, recyclable materials and more efficient processes, while also extending product shelf life to reduce food waste.

Key demands today include mono-materials, reduced plastic use and improved recyclability, all balanced with performance and cost.

Sustainable packaging development relies on balancing materials, processes and industrial scalability.

Case study: ESL product development

Could you give a specific example?

A significant case involves a European food company that aimed to launch an extended shelf-life (ESL) milk-based beverage while maintaining a clean label and low environmental impact packaging. Challenges included microbiological sensitivity, unsuitable packaging and an incompatible filling process.

Our team became involved from the earliest stages, analyzing the product, studying combinations of materials and technologies, and conducting tests and simulations on real production lines. This led to an integrated solution that ensured safety, shelf life, and low environmental impact, making the production process stable and ready for industrial scaling.

As a result, the client was able to launch the product on time, avoid additional costs, and achieve a solution aligned with market objectives.

An integrated approach enables the successful launch of safe, sustainable and industrially viable products.

Why choose Galdi
