The Galdi Village: 100% Galdi

Two years after its opening, here is an overview of the Galdi Village, a place that embodies Galdi’s values, created to be filled with ideas and innovation!

The Galdi Village, a place to fill, is the multi-purpose space located right next to Galdi's production site, which was officially opened on 24 March 2021.

The building stands for some of Galdi's key values, namely care for the environment, well-being of employees and community engagement.

A sustainable building

The Galdi Village was created to be sustainable.

It is indeed a LEED®building, an international standard certifying that its entire life cycle is environmentally friendly.

The Galdi Village obtained Gold LEED certification thanks to a range of sustainable solutions that were implemented in the building, including the use of roofing and external finishing with a low SRI (Solar Reflectance Index) and large windows for natural light, combined with artificial LED lights dimming.

We also paid special attention to saving a precious resource for our planet – water - by making decisions to reduce its consumption:

  • Trees and shrubs in the garden have a low water demand
  • A phytodepuration system returning to the aquifer 100% of the water used in the Galdi Village
  • Sanitary equipment with low-flow fixtures

Quality of working life

Ensuring the wellbeing of our employees, their families and the community" is one of the common benefit goals we chose to include in our Benefit Corporation Statute.

In the Galdi Village, this goal is achieved through a welcoming environment, created to offer "high standards in terms of air quality, thermal (including temperature and humidity control) and lighting comfort."

Inside the building, there are two spaces that vouch for Galdi's approach to wellbeing and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle:

The Bistrot

A healthy diet is essential to health and quality of life.

This principle is the foundation of Galdi Bistrot.

The kitchen - where all dishes are prepared and cooked fresh by our chef - offers a varied menu, also catering to food intolerances and nutritional guidelines, with a clear preference for natural, seasonal and local products.

This approach is very popular among Galdi staff, so much so that the Bistro serves an average of 1400 meals per month.

Sustainability is also key: for take away meals, for example, we only use compostable materials.

The 2023 goals, which we shared in our Impact Report, also include a collaboration project with our supplier to calculate the percentage of CO2 emitted by single dishes.

The Fitness Area

Inside the Galdi Village there is a company gym for the mental and physical well-being of our employees, for both individual and group activities.

In addition to the freely usable equipment, the Fitness Area organises several classes, including Pilates and functional training sessions.

The popular Mindfulness workshop series that started in 2022 has been extended and expanded for 2003 too.

On average, 18% of Galdi employees use the gym area.

Promoting ideas through community engagement

The Galdi Village was designed as "a place to fill" with ideas and innovation.

True to this approach, the building organises and hosts initiatives for Galdi's stakeholders and employees.

The meetings, both in-person and remote, are dedicated to topics that are important to Galdi, such as innovation, sustainability, inclusiveness and digitalisation.

About 400 people, including locals, customers, suppliers, representatives of institutions and associations, attended the events that were held in 2022.

From 4 March to 11 May 2023, the Galdi Village was also the venue of a travelling exhibition, which is part of the “Sustainable Eco-Network” circular economy project.

The exhibition also features two art works made with materials provided by Galdi.

The goals for 2023 are to keep and increase the number of activities organised in the Galdi Village, in line with the principle enshrined in our Statute, which is "to promote the beauty and heritage of the local area."
